Our orthopedic physicians are fellowship trained, board certified, and highly skilled in general orthopedics, and have sub-specialty training and interests in areas such as knee, hip, and ankle replacement; pediatric orthopedics; and sports medicine. Our team also manages a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including scoliosis, osteoporosis, fractures, ligament and tendon injuries, and deformities from birth defects or trauma.

We also have a team of podiatrists dedicated to improving your quality of life by providing expert treatment for foot and ankle disorders such as sprains, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, and diabetic foot infections. We offer surgical and non-surgical treatment options, specializing in sports medicine, lower extremity injury, advanced wound care, elective and reconstructive surgery, diabetic issues, and pediatric foot care.

    Biography

    Krysten Bell, MD specializes in pediatric orthopedic surgical care, including trauma, complex hip deformities in children and young adults, scoliosis and other spine deformities, pediatric foot and ankle surgery, and pediatric sports injuries. She also works with neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy.

    Krysten is a candidate active member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Her research interests include outcomes following periacetabular osteotomy for residual hip dysplasia and surgical treatment of severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis.

    Elizabeth "Liz" H. Cablik, NP specializes in foot and ankle orthopedics, offering customized treatment plans to new patients, assisting surgeon Dr. Kaitlin Neary in the operating room, and providing ongoing post-operative patient care. She manages a variety of conditions including chronic and acute foot and ankle pain, ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, arthritis of the foot and ankle, neuromas, hammertoes, bunions and bunionettes, and ingrown toenails.

    Throughout evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, Liz focuses on developing rapport with her patients. She emphasizes education and the overall health and well-being of the whole person. Liz tailors each patient's care plan to fit their unique needs and can quickly refer for surgery when appropriate. Whether a patient has incurred a sports injury with impaired performance or a congenital musculoskeletal deformity, her goal is to get her patients back to baseline activity level — happy, healthy, and enjoying their highest quality of life.

    Liz earned bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Emory University and is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Pursuing both a master’s degree and nurse practitioner licensure provided an opportunity for her to blend the compassionate care of nursing with the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions. Liz was inspired to work in healthcare by her parents: her mother is a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist and her father, Dr. Michael Coughlin, is a world-renowned foot and ankle surgeon. Prior to joining St. Luke's, Liz enjoyed working alongside her father until his retirement.

    Originally from Boise, Liz loves the great outdoors. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling, skiing, running, and hiking with their son and dog.

    Biography

    Clinton Clark, DPM earned his bachelor's degree from Boise State University. He received additional clinical training with the Diabetic Limb Salvage Program through the Joslin Clinic and Harvard Medical College. He served as associate clinical professor of surgery at the John A. Burns College of Medicine and as director and clinic instructor with HealthSouth Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship in Honolulu.

    Biography

    Scott Graviet, DPM specializes in general podiatry, podopediatrics, and reconstructive foot surgery. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and his medical degree from California College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his three-year residency in foot and ankle surgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, California.

    Benjamin Kerns, PA-C is a certified athletic trainer. He earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training and sports medicine from Eastern Washington University and his master's degree in physician assistant studies from Idaho State University.

    Biography

    Ronald M. Kristensen, MD specializes in hip and knee replacements as well as problems involving the lower extremities. Dr. Kristensen is a founder of the St. Luke's Joint Center, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. After completing his lower extremity fellowship in Seattle, he moved to Boise, where he advanced lower extremity reconstruction, having performed over 1,000 computer-assisted hip and knee replacement surgeries. He has worked with the early development of custom cutting jigs and has implemented advanced multimodal pain management techniques to minimize postoperative discomfort.

    Dr. Kristensen serves on multiple committees for St Luke’s. He has been active in teaching and research with numerous publications, as well as lectures regarding the management of arthritic problems. In 2005, Dr. Kristensen was elected as one of the Best Doctors in America by his peers and currently holds this nomination. It is Dr. Kristensen’s goal to return his patients to pain-free daily activities as well as recreational activities including golfing, biking, and skiing.

    Biography

    Tracye J. Lawyer, MD, PhD, FAAOS, ABOS is board certified and fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine and serves as the medical director for St. Luke's cartilage preservation and restoration program. She specializes in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. In addition to her medical degree, she also earned a PhD focusing on cartilage regeneration. Her special interests include pediatric and adult cartilage repair and restoration of the knee, shoulder and elbow, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repairs, meniscal allograft transplantation, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, patellar instability, total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, rotator cuff repair, biceps tendon repairs, shoulder instability surgery and ligament reconstruction of the elbow. 

    Dr. Lawyer received her medical degree from The Ohio State University and her orthopedic residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh where she worked with leaders and innovators in sports medicine, Dr. Freddie Fu and Dr. James Bradley. During her fellowship, she worked with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. She has authored multiple peer reviewed research articles and has presented her work at national meetings. Dr. Lawyer is the team physician for the Rocky Mountain High School Grizzlies and Boise Hawks.

    Dr. Lawyer earned her bachelor's degree at Stanford University, where she was a two-sport athlete. She earned PAC-10 Player of the Year in soccer and was an NCAA track champion in the heptathlon. After college, she competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field, gaining valuable experience among the best athletes in the world. She later received the honor of induction into the Stanford Hall of Fame.

    Biography

    Kenneth T. Lindley, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery. He also has expertise in wrist and elbow arthroscopy and complex wrist and elbow trauma, including fracture care, elbow replacement, and tendon and ligament injuries. Dr. Lindley believes in providing patients with information and assisting them in making informed decisions regarding their care, which in some cases may include non-operative management. His goal is to help patients achieve their pre-injury level of activity.

    Dr. Lindley earned bachelor’s degrees in zoology and chemistry from Weber State University, also playing on their Division I tennis team. He earned his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, where he also served as chief resident and provided medical support for the university's varsity football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and swimming teams. Dr. Lindley also completed fellowship training through the Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at Triangle Orthopaedic Associates in Durham, North Carolina. During this time, he supported the varsity basketball and soccer teams at Campbell University.

    In his free time, Dr. Lindley continues to play tennis and also enjoys golf, basketball, and coaching his children’s basketball teams.

    Biography

    Gary Millward, DPM is a podiatrist specializing in surgical and non-surgical foot and ankle care. He helped establish the High Risk Foot Clinic at the Boise VA and continues to work with Idaho's veterans.

    Dr. Millward enjoys working with students and residents and regularly lectures to BSU nursing students. He particularly likes caring for whole families, from young children to their grandparents.

    Biography

    Kaitlin C. Neary, MD is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the foot and ankle. During her fellowship, she participated in the care of collegiate and professional athletes, and has experience in transplantation techniques for cartilage disorders and sports-related foot and ankle injuries. Dr. Neary has also published several research articles and book chapters on foot and ankle issues.

    Dr. Neary is an athlete herself, having played soccer in college and then in the U.S. Women's League. She is now a competitive cyclist, racing in road, mountain, and cyclocross disciplines. She understands the debilitating nature of orthopedic problems and enjoys working with patients to help them regain mobility and return to a desired level of activity.

    Biography

    Marlene Olson, NP specializes in the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle. She is certified in diabetic foot care and wound management and has decades of wound clinic experience. She is particularly passionate about preventing amputations related to diabetes. Her practice includes education and guidance to help people manage diabetic foot care through prevention of recurrent ulcerations, evaluation of footwear, callus management and foot assessment.

    Marlene also evaluates and treats foot, ankle and toe pain; non-operative fractures; ingrown toenails; fungal toenails; and ankle sprains. She is trained in the fascial distortion model for the management of musculoskeletal pain, as well.

    Marlene began her nursing education in Canada and earned her master's degree from Idaho State University. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Idaho Medical Association.

    In her free time, Marlene loves to hike, quilt, and spend time with her grandchildren.

  • Biography

    Krista Petersen, FNP-C is a member of the pediatric orthopedic team. She specializes in musculoskeletal injuries and fracture management in the pediatric population. She is an active member or the Pediatric Orthopaedic Providers Society.

    Prior to obtaining her FNP, Krista worked as a registered nurse on the pediatric floor, the emergency department, and a pediatric specialty clinic at St. Luke’s. Her career has always involved the specialized care of children. She strives to provide a positive experience and compassionate care for every young patient and their families. 

    Krista earned her associates degree from Salt Lake Community College, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwest Nazarene University. In her free time, Krista can be found in the Idaho’s backcountry, whitewater rafting, hiking, and skiing. She enjoys watching sports, especially football. Most of all, Krista loves spending time with her large, busy, and very entertaining family.

  • Sports Medicine

    Biography

    Dr. Kaleb Redden DO, ABFP, CAQSM, CRP is a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician specializing in non-operative management of orthopedic injury in pediatric and adult patients including shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, wrist, ankle, neck and back injuries. He also has special training in the use of ultrasound for diagnostic and interventional purposes, including minimally invasive procedures and targeted injections. Along with treatment of both acute and chronic injury, Dr. Redden is highly trained in sports performance and sports nutrition with a special interest in fitness. He is also a certified ring-side physician and combat sports medicine specialist currently serving as the deputy commissioner and chief medical officer for the Idaho Athletic Commission. 

    Dr. Redden is one of the team physicians for Mountain View High School, local Idaho rodeos, Idaho Steelheads semi-professional hockey, UFC MMA, Bellator MMA, Kaged Muscle Fitness (which includes professional MMA fighters), Olympic gymnasts, collegiate and professional football players, professional power lifters, and bodybuilders. 

    Dr. Redden completed his sports medicine fellowship at the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute where he cared for athletes connected to Boise State University, Capital High School, and the Onward Shay marathon, as well as fighters with the UFC and Kaged Muscle Athletes. He served as a chief resident at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho and was the founder and president of the sports medicine club for his medical school, Pacific Northwest University of Health Science. He completed his bachelor's degrees in exercise science and chemistry at Utah State University, where he also competed as a student athlete. 

    Dr. Redden is married with three children. In his free time, he enjoys lifting weights and spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, mountain biking, playing sports, and riding motorcycles. His favorite quote is: ”There is no substitute for strength and no excuse for lack of it.”

  • Pediatric Orthopedics

    Biography

    Jason Robison, MD, POSNA has special interest in pediatric orthopedic care, trauma, foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, and complex deformity correction. He also specializes in non-surgical and surgical treatment of complex deformities of the spine and hip in children and young adults, including scoliosis and kyphosis. Dr. Robison is member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Association of North America (POSNA). His research interests have focused on hip deformity in young, active adults and the outcomes of non-joint replacement surgeries. He has authored textbook chapters on orthopedic trauma and the management of complex pediatric spinal deformity.

  • Orthopedic Surgery

    Biography

    Steven E. Roser, MD is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the care of the foot and ankle, and related disorders. He is one of the few medical doctors in the region performing total ankle replacement, which is a complex surgical reconstruction. His goal is to deliver state-of-the-art care for your foot, utilizing all conservative means necessary to limit surgery when possible.

    Dr. Roser has traveled to Kenya, Africa on several medical missions with Expansion International. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, fly fishing, travel, hiking, hunting and reading. He is married with three grown children.

    Biography

    Larry "Buzz" Showalter, MD is trained in all facets of children's orthopedic care including trauma and fractures; complex upper and lower extremity deformity; and neuromuscular, congenital, and other developmental disorders. He frequently manages conditions such as clubfoot, hip dysplasia, skeletal dysplasia, limb-length discrepancy, and growth plate injuries/arrests. His goal is to maximize quality of life for his patients.

    Dr. Showalter has special interest in prevention of early onset hip osteoarthritis through improved diagnostics for developmental hip dysplasia.

    Dr. Showalter serves as medical director for pediatric orthopedics at St. Luke's Children's. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

    In his free time, Dr. Showalter enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and four grown sons. He loves to hike, camp, fly fish and play any competitive game.

    Biography

    Michelle Stoddard, PA-C is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants focusing in orthopedics.  

    Michelle began working in healthcare at an early age, volunteering in the hospital weekly throughout high school. She later became an EMT and worked in the emergency department. While working as an EMT, she earned a bachelor's degree in health science with an emphasis in public health from Brigham Young University - Idaho. During her undergraduate studies, she shadowed orthopedics providers, which sparked her interest in that specialty. Michelle earned a master's degree in physician assistant studies at Heritage University, completing a rotation in orthopedic surgery and graduating at the top of her class. She then spent two years working in family medicine, solidifying her general skills as an advance practice provider, prior to specializing in orthopedics.

    Outside of the office, Michelle enjoys working on a hobby farm with her husband. Together, they raise all their own meat and enjoy tending to the land and animals. They also like to spend time together outdoors: riding horses, camping, hiking, skiing, white-water rafting, and riding ATVs.
